Managing Portland's streets requires preserving and upgrading pavement through street maintenance and cleaning activities and maintaining and improving pavement markings to support safety, visibility, and the efficient movement of all people on Portland streets across all modes. Adequate management of these assets keeps the City in compliance with federal and state requirements pertaining to visibility of regulatory guidance (pavement markings) and safety infrastructure. 858
